RIVERSIDE (CBSLA) – A Riverside couple were unable to move into their new home for 15 months – because the previous owner refused to leave – was finally able to enter their home last week.
Tracie and Myles Albert closed the $ 650,000 home in January 2020, but when they got home to get the keys from the old landlord, he told them he wouldn’t move out.
The couple tried to kick him away, but California’s The COVID-19 deportation order went into effect as soon as they submit the paperwork.
The ban was supposed to keep struggling families living in the pandemic, but the couple said the former landlord took advantage of the system to stay home for free while defrauding them with their prepaid.
The couple had been involved in the mortgage for over a year.
Video on cell phones showed the couple took control of the house last week, while a neighbor’s security camera caught the previous owner moving out.
The couple changed the lock and began removing all the belongings left behind by the former owner. The couple said the challenge has turned them sour about the house and that they will probably sell it on their own.
Myles Albert said: “I hate this house and it’s really bad, but every time I drive up this street, I get nervous.
“At this point, I can’t imagine the move in,” he added.
