(Local CBS) – The first two rounds of the tournament were in books and they lived up to the hype. After a season of ups and downs, the tournament caused a lot of turmoil with four double-digit seeds reaching the weekend of Monday. One of our number four (Illinois) seeds has been disqualified because there are two of the number two seeds (Ohio, Iowa).
The 15 Oral Roberts seed becomes only the second 15 to ever make it to the Round of 16, following in the footsteps of the Florida Gulf Coast “Dunk City” team in 2013. The Golden Eagles will seek to go one step further. That was when they met Arkansas No. 3 for the right to play the regional final. Razorbacks are fighting for their own history, returning to Sweet 16 for the first time in 25 years, and hoping for the first time in the Elite Eight since 1995.
That was just one of the entertaining matches set for the weekend. The action started on Saturday when the State of Oregon 12 seeds met Loyola Chicago 8 seeds during a match in the Midwest. That match was followed by the South’s top seed, Baylor, against five-man seed Villanova. The battle of Oral Roberts vs. Arkansas was the third match of the day and Saturday ended with another Midwestern semi-final, 11 seeded Syracuse and 2 Houston seeds.
On Sunday, things started with top seed Gonzaga facing 5-seed Creighton seed on CBS, followed by an Eastern region match between 4-seeded Florida and Michigan 1-seeded. 11 seeds UCLA faced 2 Alabama seeds in the third match of the day. And the night map saw the Pac-12 battle between Oregon 7 counties and USC 6 counties.
