A great business needs a lot to be successful – strong leadership, a competitive edge, and a unique vision among them. However, one factor that can make or break a business is process (or lack of that).

What is a flow chart?
A flow chart is a visual map to help explain the decision-making process, achieve results, or predict results. The flowchart starts from the starting point on the graphic, and as the user tracks through it, they select one of the results or options until the end of the process.
In business, diagrams can be used for any of the following purposes:
- Link teams and processes.
- Nurturing email.
- Customer journey mapping.
- Introduce customers or employees.
- A / B testing.
- QA-ing work.
- Career progression.
- Customer support.

8 Business Flowchart Example
1. Basic flowchart template
The basic flow chart template is the ideal solution for those who are just starting out with flowcharts. The pattern allows its designers to specify a starting point, two potential outcomes, and then the outcome of those decisions. Due to its limitations, this flowchart pattern may be best suited for basic processes, such as a simple A / B test.
2. Swimming lane flow chart template
The swim flow chart template is used to divide the process steps into different sections. For your business, these different areas could be time periods, groups, employees or job requirements. In the example below, the swim trails are segmented to illustrate the customer journey.
3. Sample mission flowchart
The task flow chart pattern is distinguished by what each shape on the flow chart represents. This format is beneficial when the work of multiple teams is interwoven throughout the process, as individuals can easily distinguish the tasks for which they are responsible. These responsibilities are noted in a lock on the flow chart for quick reference.
The shapes can also represent different types of action. In the example below, the different shapes represent the beginning, the end, and the actions that are performed during landing page view.
4. Complex flowchart pattern
For a diagram that doesn’t need grid lines or different shapes, this template is the best solution. It provides options for multiple endpoints depending on the steps taken in the process.
One example where this flowchart pattern can be used is the recruitment process, as it is more likely to result.
5. Circle flow chart template
The circular flow chart template changes things with a different shape, but it also provides a different path structure. For example, in the image below, the template can be used as a decision-making framework. Here, it is used to help social media managers determine which website should be used to post content.
6. Sample linear flow chart
A linear flow chart pattern is the solution when there is really only one optimal outcome and each step of the process leads someone to that result or the process is simply terminated as a result. An example – highlighted below – could be for the feed stream. In the picture, the process is over whether someone signs up for an event or not.
7. Tree flow chart template
The tree-style flowchart pattern makes the most sense for instances with multiple options, and when each has a separate and clear next step. For businesses, this flowchart would be perfect for the support department – which can use this template to map responses from the chat assistant or (as outlined below) a tree phone.
8. Organizational flow chart template
The final flowchart that businesses may want to use is an organization flow chart (or organization chart) template. This pattern is used by the heads of a company and / or department to outline the chain of command within a sector of the business. Although not procedurally accurate, this visualization helps company insiders quickly understand who is reporting to whom and who is responsible for what.
