Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Polite, Jr. delivers – Press Releases

Good morning, and thank you for this introduction, Jennifer. It’s an honor to be here in Houston with Jack Yates and to share this stage with so many dedicated officials.

My name is Kenneth Polite and I am your Assistant Attorney General for the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division. I have the privilege of overseeing over 1,400 public servants tasked with working on a wide range of criminal justice priorities. I can tell you that there is no greater obligation than to keep the American people safe.

Our gathering here this morning is our latest example of our commitment to fighting violent crime.

All of the public servants here — our US Attorney, our District Attorney, our chief of police, our sheriff, our heads of local offices of the FBI and ATF — they all fight every day in this community to save lives on the streets of Houston.

It’s my honor to tell you that the Criminal Investigation Division will be stepping up its work. In cooperation with the US Attorney for the Southern District of Texas and our law enforcement partners, the CID is conducting a focused initiative to combat violent crime in Houston. Together, we will augment the tools and resources we use to investigate and prosecute violent crimes nationally, including the use of RICO indictments, and apply those tools to gangs terrorizing communities here in Houston.

This new initiative will bring together prosecutors from the Organized Crime Division and gangs from the CID, our nation’s foremost experts on the prosecution of RICO, as well as prosecutors from the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas, and dedicated investigators, analysts and forensic experts from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the United States Marshals Service, the Houston Police Department, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and many other federal, state and local levels. .
