Jayson Tatum made eight turns but ended up with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Marcus Smart added 17 points, 14 points in the fourth half and 9 assists for the Celtics, who won 3/4.
Brown said he and Tatum spoke before the game about not accepting Tuesday’s 10-point defeat against Philadelphia.
“I just need to be Jaylen. And our team played great tonight, ”said Brown.
Brown and Tatum have been closely following the shock provided by Tristan Thompson, who had seven points, eight rebounds and three blocks in the return game after missing 12 games due to the tournament’s health and safety protocols. Brad Stevens enjoyed with a dismal performance, however.
“That’s what we used to do – kind of like a devastating Celtic win, that’s what we went through when we were at our best,” said Stevens.
RJ Barrett got 6 points 6 out of 3 and scored 29 points for the Knicks, who have dropped two points in a row – two points each – and five out of six. Julius Randle added 22 points and nine rebounds.
“We’re fine,” Randle said. “We won’t be much disappointed. We have to find out what the problem is and find a way to fix it. “
New York and Boston entered the day with seventh place in the East Conference playoff race. The match was tight throughout, having eight draws and 17 lead swings.
The Celtics took a seven-goal lead at the start of the fourth half before using a 7-0 win to take an 87-85 lead.
It was 91-88 when Tatum got a pass blocked, resulting in a trick on the other end of Randle.
Smart missed three and New York seemed to be in the lead, but Barrett was blocked by Grant Williams, leading to a Brown save, making it 93-90 with 1:02 remaining.
Barrett forces it with a 3 pointer, and Smart replies with his own 3. Alec Burks took a step forward in the third step, and the Celtics closed it off from the free-throw line.
Thompson has brought some difficulty to rotation by keeping gameplay alive, attacking paint, and early fouling. He had seven points, five rebounds and a tack in 11 minutes in the first half.
