DENVER (CBS4) The state has confirmed that it has paid more than $ 19 million for fraudulent unemployment claims since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Colorado Department of Labor and Jobs provided the update during a press conference we streamed live on CBSN Denver on Friday morning.
Earlier this week, the state’s unemployment managers said they were it is estimated that the scammers took away the amount of up to 30 million dollars since the beginning of a pandemic.
The state said while losing $ 19 million, it was estimated to have prevented another $ 37 billion from falling into the hands of scammers.
They are currently investigating more than a million suspicious claims.
