NEW YORK, NY (CBSNewYork) – About 3 pounds cocaine Officials said they were found concealed in – and in – a person intercepted at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
According to US Customs and Border Protection, Yerlina Lantigua Hernandez DeNova, a Green Card holder, flew in from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on April 9. Quan said that they had found three tablets containing white powder in her wallet.
She was taken to a private area for a more thorough search, where officials said officers had found many white powder in her bra.
That’s when DeNova allegedly told the officers that more small pellets were inserted into the intimate areas of her body.
Testing of the pills was positive for cocaine, the authorities said.
In total, the officials recalled 100 pills from her – about 3 pounds. The estimated value of the street is more than $ 94,000.
She faces a crime of drug smuggling.
“This arrest is another example of our CBP officers being vigilant in protecting the United States from the distribution of these illegal drugs,” said Marty Rabon, acting director of CBP’s fieldwork in New York, said.
