WASHINGTON (AP) – Brendan Daniel Hines-Ike and Russell Canouse each scored at the end of the first half to lead DC United to a 2-1 win. New York City FC on Saturday night in the opening game of the season for both teams.

Hines-Ike scored in the 39th minute with an assist from Júnior Moreno. Canouse scored five minutes later thanks to an assist from Julian Gressel.
Valentin Castellanos scored in the 15th minute for NYCFC, but was also shown a yellow card in the 74th minute. DC United goalkeeper Chris Seitz made a third save, blocking Castellanos’s right-footed shot from the right side of the box. 85 minutes.

The teams have met twice during the 2020 season. NYCFC won 4-1 on October 7 at Yankee Stadium. Teams went goalless at Audi Field on September 6.
James Sands begins NYCFC. The 20-year-old defender became his starter last season and was renewed for five years last month even though he remained on the radar of European clubs.
