WHITE PLAINS, NY (CBSNewYork) – Rapper DMX passed away after receiving life support at White Plains Hospital, his family said on Friday.
A statement from his family said the Grammy-nominated artist passed away at the hospital “with his family by his side after receiving life support for the past few days.”
Lots of family, friends and fans gathered outside the hospital earlier this week for a prayer session.
“This is a legendary figure in our culture. One of the greatest performers in terms of performance, ”one person told CBS2’s Ali Bauman.

DMX, born Earl Simmons, released the first of his seven albums in 1998. He has been nominated for a Grammy Award three times and won an American Music Award twice.
