NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A woman has been shot Island city while working.
Police said the suspect was in custody after he was hit by a car.
It happened on City Island Avenue at City Island Road around 12:30 pm
CBS2’s Jenna DeAngelis reports that the woman, 52 years old, is working on a construction site as a traffic control flag-holder.
Sources told CBS2 that the suspect, a 67-year-old ex-boyfriend, spoke to her and shot her. It’s not clear what was said.
The shooter is said to have attempted to escape the scene on a bicycle.
The victim’s 58-year-old boyfriend, who was also working at the construction site, witnessed the shooting and chased the suspect with his bike, assaulting him as he tried to ride his bicycle , DeAngelis reported.
At this point, it doesn’t seem like the boyfriend will face criminal charges. However, fees are pending for the suspect.
One man said the victim had a friendly face there for weeks.
A gun was recovered at the scene here. Police are examining the motive of the shooting, but calling it a domestic murder.
