Flooring patterns first used in France in the 17th Century are making a comeback, according to flooring specialists.
The classic and timeless herringbone wood flooring was the ‘go to’ pattern in the past and due to the hardy nature of many of these floors, they can still be seen in many historic homes around the world and LV Hardwood Flooring are finding more and more customers demanding this classic look.
A spokesman from LV Hardwood Flooring said the demand for the classic and historic herringbone wood flooring has certainly been on the up in recent months.
“A great reason for opting for this style of flooring is that it really is timeless. As it is hardwood flooring, then it is also really hard wearing. If it is looked after and regularly treated, then a floor like this would last a lifetime. It is such a classic design, that you could change your interior design as often as you like – the floor would match any décor. You can choose different types of wood to suit your tastes. It is also really good in small spaces as it helps to make a room look bigger.
“It might look more intricate, but the cost of installing herringbone flooring isn’t much different to plank hardwood flooring and it is actually easier to lay. It is certainly a really stylish option for any room or home. The only thing we would not recommend is installing it in a humid space like a bathroom,” he added.
The maintenance of a herringbone flooring is absolutely key to its longevity. The floor should be swept and dry mopped regularly and any spills cleaned as quickly as possible. Then it is recommended that it is cleaned monthly with a special wood floor treatment.
“Sanding and varnishing for small areas to maintain the upkeep of the floor is fine for most homeowners, but we would recommend hiring a professional to undertake any major refinishing work. This is definitely something homeowners should consider to be able to keep the floor looking brand new over a longer period of time. Refinishing a floor is a brilliant way to restore a well use floor and it means you don’t have to keep replacing the floor.
“With this in mind, wood flooring is a really economical way to floor a home. It might cost a little bit more than other types of flooring at first, but in the long run it is definitely the cheaper and more hard wearing option,” he added.
