Former Detroit judge lost everything, then transferred Walmart to sell her line of body scrubs

Tiffany Cartwright, the founder and CEO of Amarra Products, is the epitome of bounce back despite destitute adversity. Former assistant attorney general and former administrative law judge for the State Michigan was fired in 2012 without notice due to a cut in the state budget. The sudden and sudden job loss sparked Cartwright’s startup journey, according to YouTube’s Word With Ty Brownlow. Cartwright’s startup story includes finding a new niche, but first, she must weather a devastating storm.

In an interview with BLACK BUSINESS, Cartwright reflect by the time she lost everything, including her home and car. Even finding a new job is a nasty challenge.

“I was unable to find another job because I was a judge, no other company wanted to accept me and most of the entry positions thought I was qualified so they did not want to risk me. So I keep getting rejected after being rejected, ”said Cartwright WAS.

Coincidentally, her brother – motivational speaker Art Cartwright – hosted an online radio show and hosted Department of Global Empowerment. Through these pathways, he mentors individuals in the community who want to learn how to start a business. Cartwright watched her sibling’s radio show while he was talking about doing something with inactive ideas, including the concoctions people made in their kitchens. Ironically, Tiffany did it just because her daughter, Taylor, had congenital eczema.

“I’m actually in the kitchen making it up because I don’t want to use steroids or chemicals on her skin,” says Cartwright. WAS. “I have always believed that everything we need for these temples was given to us by nature, so I started mixing them, bringing them out as Mother’s Day gifts, (and) birthday gifts for us. my girlfriend. And one more time, [I] never even thought of starting it as a business until many years later.

With more guidance from his brother, Cartwright started an LLC, taking steps to combined her business by obtaining a tax ID number and a DUNS number. Opportunities began to open up, incl Shark tank Detroit.

“Now remember that I lost my job, I have nothing left to lose,” said Cartwright WAS.

She has succeeded in auditions before and goes on to the next round to showcase Amarra’s Products to Sharks. “And that kind of keeps things coming to me after I can successfully pitch them,” says Cartwright.

Her brother mentioned that Walmart is looking for suppliers with products made in the US. Auditions to introduce them were being held in Arkansas so she decided to seize the opportunity and go on the road trip with her family.

“I met buyers there, and I had successful encounters with buyers, and reached an agreement there to have my product tested. And so that opened the door to Walmart for me, ”said Cartwright WAS.

Walmart’s in-store testing went well, with GLAM Body Scrubs sold out in stores. Seven scrubs will be available nationwide at Walmart in the near future and now possible bought Online. The opportunity to sell body scrubs at Meijer in Detroit has also grown. Then, in February, Target contacted Cartwright to join the Black History Month show, which led to the chain’s attention. The line of scrubs will be available for sale there in the future.

Cartwright says she is motivated by realizing that people are depending on her to “do the right thing”. When entrepreneurs step out, they are representing “us” as a community. Future opportunities for others will depend on what someone can or cannot do.

“Right now I’m working to open a manufacturing facility in Detroit. I have a building. They are working as we say, but I want to hire women in Detroit, who are returning citizens, or (who) have become victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. “
