Former MDEC CEO Yasmin Mahmood joins global AI company Skymind as Chairman

Skymind Holdings, an international company specializing in the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), appointed Yasmin Mahmood as its Chairman.

Yasmin was previously the CEO of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the national arm of Malaysia’s government that drives the country’s digital economy. She step down as Chief Executive Officer after leading MDEC for more than four years.

Before that, she took on management roles at global technology companies, including Dell and HP, and was the CEO of Microsoft Malaysia.

With a presence in 17 countries, including Germany, Japan and the UK, Skymind develops innovative AI technologies that it claims to have been implemented in Fortune 500 companies including Nvidia, IBM, Huawei and NASA.

Last year, its joint venture subsidiary, London-based Skymind Global Ventures, launched an 800 million US dollar fund to support promising new AI companies and academic research across the globe.

As part of Skymind’s plans to expand its footprint across Southeast Asia, the company expanded into Malaysia in October 2019, with the country serving as the group’s regional AI hub.
