ALBANY, NY (CBSNewYork) – Governor Andrew Cuomo and top lawmakers reached a deal on a new state budget on Tuesday.
The $ 212 billion plan to include cell phones is legalized sports betting.
It will dedicate a record $ 29.5 billion in aid to schools and provide $ 2.4 billion in rent and relief to homeowners. It will also provide $ 2.4 billion in child care.
The budget set aside $ 1 billion to revive small businesses.
It also includes a plan to make broadband Internet affordable, along with comprehensive nursing home reform.
“This budget continues to fund the nation’s largest $ 311 billion infrastructure plan, establishing a groundbreaking program to provide affordable Internet for low-income families and enhancing public safety through police reform, while continuing to provide relief to New Yorkers and small businesses as we recover from the pandemic, ”Cuomo said in a statement.
“Middle-class and working-class taxpayers will get the relief they desperately need, while the richest New Yorkers will help their neighbors. This budget makes New York better for everyone, ”Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said.
“My colleagues and I have been working tirelessly to provide a budget that helps New York rise from this health crisis and recover from its dire economic effects while maintaining commitment Our conclusion is to put New York families first, ”said Council President Carl Heastie.
