NEW YORK (AP) – The Knicks fell and was almost out. They watched most of the game with a few minutes to go.

As it turned out, there was only enough time left for an empty comeback.

“We needed it badly,” said All-Star Julius Randle. “Here’s the way to get out of that, that little slump or whatever you want to call it. This is definitely the game to do just that. The boys stepped up. “

RJ Barrett scored 20 points, made a 3-point treble with 1:15 left in extra time, and New York used a late rally to stun Memphis Grizzlies 133-129 on Friday night.

Alec Burks had 9 of 19 in extra time and Randle recovered from the goalless first half to finish with 15 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in his fifth double of the season. New York broke the Grizzlies’ four-win streak.

The Knicks took a 3-1 lead, then never got ahead again. They had dropped double digits for most of the night and continued to drop 13 points in the middle of the fourth quarter.

But they matched in time to avoid a third straight defeat and win a second time in seven games.

“We were able to get this today. So it just feels good to know we’re doing the right things, ”says Barrett. “Please continue to work hard, keep working together and it will pay off.”

Immanuel Quickley scored 20 points, while Derrick Rose got 19 points for the Knicks.

Ja Morant scored 26 points, and Dillon Brooks got 23 for the Grizzlies, who are trying to complete a perfect four-game ride through the East Conference and show up in about 45 minutes they will be present.

“It still has to be the end of the game, something we played well in the first three matches. It’s that simple, ”says Morant. “We have to play Griz basketball for 48 minutes per game for the remainder of the season.”

Grizzlies took a 106-93 lead in the middle of the fourth half and still led eight goals in less than 2 and a half minutes. But Randle’s three-point strike with 1:01 and Barrett’s three free throws tied it to 112 at 37 seconds.

Morant and Jonas Valanciunas could only take one free throw each, allowing Barrett to score 114 in one drive to 8.8 seconds. Morant missed a turn to lane and the game went into extra time.

Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said: “The fight was fantastic, perseverance and in the end we made things go our way.
