Libya: Di Maio, about to reopen consulate in Benghazi – Africa

“The re-activation of the Italian consulate in Benghazi is imminent.” This was announced by Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio at the end of a meeting in Farnesina with his Libyan colleague Najla el Mangoush. The decision was aimed at “enhancing Italy’s institutional presence” and “affirming Italy’s commitment” to the protection of Libya’s “territorial integrity”. In addition to the consulate in Benghazi, an honorary consulate will also be opened in Seba nel Fezzan, Di Maio added, reiterating that the embassy in Tripoli was never closed during the war.
