New York City teenagers among the first young women to win the Eagle Scout – CBS New York ranking

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Two young women are breaking down the inner barrier Scouts USA.

As CBS2’s Vanessa Murdock reported, teens are part of the first class of women currently Scout eagle.

Just two years ago, the Boy Scout Association allowed the girls to join the ranks.

Neither Beatrix Bisceglia from the Upper East Side Also not Kaitlyn Wood from Staten Island wasted a minute before the end. Scouting is already in their blood.

“I have an older brother two years older than me. Him and Eagle. My father is an eagle and my grandfather is on a scouting program. So being a part of this family tradition is all I want, ”said Bisceglia, 17.

Wood regularly participates in meetings with her brother.

“His army always has me. I was like one of the other scouts, just unofficial, ”said 19-year-old Wood.

Both young girls competed from one challenge to another. If boys can do it, so can boys.

“Survival in the wild. So I spent a night in New shirt back in February 2019, in the weather 30 degrees and I have to make my own shelter, ”said Bisceglia.

Identity backups are not always easy.

“Some of them were memorable because I was stressed out from them and cried a few times,” said Wood.

In record time, both won a minimum of more than 21 merit badges and completed a project of community service – making masks.

“In July, we were able to donate more than 200 masks to our donor organization,” said Bisceglia.

Their hard work has paid off. In February, two years after being allowed to become boy scouts, both young women, along with 1,000 others from around the country, won the Eagle Scout – the first group ever to do so.

“Hey, it’s the two of us now,” said Wood.

“For any girls watching this show, I encourage you to join. It’s a great opportunity and you’ll take advantage of it a lot, ”said Bisceglia.
