NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) A New York City resident tested positive for a coronavirus variant that was first discovered in Brazil, Governor Andrew Cuomo said Saturday.
This is the first case of the Brazilian variant discovered in the state of New York.
Cuomo said the patient was a Brooklyn resident aged 90, with no history of travel.

“This is a race between vaccines and variants, and we continue to make enormous progress in vaccinating eligible New Yorkers. In the meantime, we remind New Yorkers to do everything they can to protect themselves and those around us as we continue to manage this pandemic, ”New York State Health Commissioner, Tien Dr. Howard Zucker said in a statement.
Brazilian COVID The variant was first discovered in the United States in late January. There are currently 48 cases nationwide, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The variations are said to be more contagious.
In the fight against the coronavirus, Cuomo said Saturday that more than 5 million New Yorkers had received at least one dose of COVID vaccine.
Statewide, the number of hospitalizations, ICU patients, and endotracheal intubation caused by COVID-19 fell to its lowest since early December. The statewide positive rate was 2.95%.
