NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – New York City announced a new program on Tuesday for kids this summer.
Major Bill de Blasio has introduced the Summer Rising program, which will combine summer school and summer camp into one experience.
The Department of Education will work with the city’s Department of Youth and Community Development to provide programming for summer school assigned children and those looking for fun activities.

“We have a great alternative for academics, entertainment, culture. It’s free for all parents. “ Those hours are substantial, especially for the young children parents need, ” De Blasio said. “Hope to reduce a lot of stress from the lives of parents, just know that they have a safe, positive place for the children this summer.”
The city is expected to have around 200,000 children enrolled in the initiative, which will replace the city’s traditional summer camp and summer camp programs.
