Peterson Ks 10, McCann Homers As Mets beat Phils again – CBS New York

NEW YORK (AP) – David Peterson hit the peak of his career with 10 strikes in six innings domination and pin friend James McCann hit his first home streak with Mets, send New York via Philadelphia Phillies 5-1 on Wednesday night for the third consecutive win.

McCann had three hits, including a double homer in round eight. Brandon Nimmo and Dominic Smith also got three times each, and Francisco Lindor scored twice.

Peterson (1-1) overcame starter Mets Zack Wheeler, allowing just two hits and a good rebound from a tough game in Philadelphia last week. The second year left hand tackled NL East’s rival Phillies after entering with 16.50 ERA in two startups against them and 2.64 ERA in nine games against all the other teams.

“Making that little mechanical change and then just being able to go ahead of the men and actually using two seams and sliders tonight, I think that’s the big difference,” says Peterson.

Three painkillers completed a treble for New York. Aaron Loup made five starts and Edwin Díaz hit two in a perfect ninth against the Phillies’ orders.

The Philadelphia players have beaten 14 times.

“It’s annoying when I don’t hit. It’s annoying for the guys, it’s annoying for the club, ”said Phillies coach Joe Girardi. “Every team overcame it. You cannot predict when it will happen ”.

After starting the season 4-0, the downfall Phillies fell to six out of eight. They only gathered four points by losing the first three games of this set of four games.

New York took the lead soon, scoring two points against Wheeler in the first match. Hot Nimmo kicked things off with a lead single with his former teammate who needed 29 throws to get through the game.

“I spoke to him (over the phone) and we had a good chat today,” Girardi said before the match, declining to give any specific reason for Haseley’s departure. “I think we all agree that this is probably for the best and we will move forward.”

When asked if the club would make a separate transaction involving Haseley before placing him on the restricted list, Girardi simply said, “No.”

To replace Haseley on the roster, the team has recalled compatriot midfielder Mickey Moniak from an alternate position. First debuted by Philadelphia in 2016, the 22-year-old made his major league debut last September.

“Adam is one of my best friends in the organization and I hope he’s okay, and whatever happens I’ll get in touch with him and make sure,” Moniak said. “You hate to see it. Whatever it may be, I just hope he’s fine. ”


Phillies: RHP Archie Bradley (oblique) is expected to be absent for three to four weeks with Grade 1 muscle tension, Girardi said.

Mets: RHP Dellin Betances (right shoulder) is joining the club and receiving treatment. Rojas said, the person who has been attending All-Star four times still has mild pain but is progressing well. Betances are expected to stay in New York during the upcoming road trip. … 3B JD Davis (left hand bruised) attended an outdoor batting session on Tuesday and was able to perform full swing.


Phillies: The RHP Zach Eflin (0-0, 3.46 ERA) is set to kick off the final series on Thursday afternoon.

Mets: RHP Jacob deGrom (0-1, 0.64 ERA) only allowed one run in 14 innings this season, notably 21.
