MASSAPEQUA, NY (CBSNewYork) – Police are investigating after a pedestrian and dog were killed on a street on Long Island.
As CBS2’s Ali Bauman reported, it was still an active scene Thursday night when police closed a section of Merrick Road in Massapequa in both directions here as they investigate a pedestrian and driver-related incident.
Police said it happened around 8pm on Merrick near Haight Avenue. A pedestrian and a dog were hit by a driver while crossing the street and it appeared that both the pedestrian and the dog were killed.
Police said the driver had stayed at the scene and they were investigating to see if there were any crimes.
It is still an ongoing investigation, but officials say Merrick Road has been reopened.
