Randle Nets 32 As Knicks Limit Zion, Beat Pelicans – CBS New York

NEW ORLEANS (AP) Julius Randle hits mid-range shots, sometimes fading from the basket, when the fourth inning is over.

When Zion Williamson tried to answer, he ran into a wall of defenders in front of the belt, and Pelican the teammates couldn’t shoot good enough from the outside to get the Knicks to pay for the paint packaging.

Randle has scored 32 points over his former team and Knicks Defensive control over Williamson in a 116-106 win over New Orleans on Wednesday night.

“Zion is a hand in hand, so we have to show him as many bodies as possible and get out and cover the shooters,” Randle said. “My teammates did a great job being there, showing their body, helping me and then putting in more effort – the second effort served as being behind the shooters and making it difficult for them. “

Reserve guard Alec Burks netted New York’s first 11 points in the fourth quarter, scoring three more and ending with 21 points for the Knicks, who have clinched four points in a row for the first time this season.

“Super impressive,” Randle said of Burks. “It’s a bad boy, man. When he’s rolling around like that, there’s really nothing you can do about him. So for me as a team leader, I want to continue giving him confidence, showing him whatever he needs just to get started. Because when he plays like that, it makes our team a lot more active.

Williamson, who came on to score at least 30 points in three consecutive games, netted 25 points against the Knicks defense, the double team and the three combined him near the basket. But he only scored four points in the last 19 minutes.

Williamson pointed out that he is trying not to squeeze difficult shots.

“Four or five (defender) are right there. Two or three people have to open up, ”Williamson said. “I try to do plays when I can, but at the end of the day I just try to find an open teammate.”

Brandon Ingram has scored 28 goals for New Orleans, their three-game record against a Knicks team that looks to be significantly improved and increasingly consistent in Tom Thibodeau’s first season.

Winning five in seven, the Knicks (29-27) are currently featured in the Eastern Conference playoffs – in a few matches of one seed out of four – with 16 competitions remaining in regular season. .

Randle highlights include a double pump, a long jump while being fouled by James Johnson to put the Knicks to 107-97 with a 5:50 left. And the way New York plays defensively, the Pelicans can’t get six points later.

Randle also goes 5/8 points from depth. Reggie Bullock hit four thirds and scored 16 goals for New York. Taj Gibson got 10 rebounds and blocked two shots.

Neither team had much of a difference in a fast-moving and backward third quarter. New Orleans took the biggest lead when Ingram changed to 87-82. But the Knicks responded 11-2 to close the game, starting with Bullock 3.

Derrick Rose added a pilot and jumped back on the whistle to give the Knicks a lead from 93-89. Burks’s fourth quarter boom accelerated to April 17, and New York never dragged on.
