NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Republican Party US Representative Lee Zeldin announced governor’s candidate New York on Thursday with an attack on incumbents Governor Andrew CuomoWho is the subject of investigate end allegations of sexual harassment and COVID-19 death out of nursing home residents.
“Below is this line; to save New York, Andrew Cuomo must go,” said Zeldin, a fourth term member of Congress from Long island, said in a newsletter.
Zeldin, 41, has represented New York’s No. 1 parliamentary area, covering most of the Central and East regions. Suffolk County, since 2015. He has served two terms in the previous state Senate.
Cuomo, who did not announce his election for a fourth term in 2022, is facing accusations that he sexual harassment or inappropriate behaviorfor some women. He resisted calls to resign over allegations of harassment and his administration’s handling COVID-19 in nursing homes during the peak of the pandemic last year.
Other Republicans who said they were considering seeking a Republican nomination for New York governor include Andrew Giuiliani, son of the former Mayor of New York City. Rudy Giuliani and a former aide in the Trump administration.
Zeldin, a military veteran and a loyal ally of former President Donald Trump, did not mention Trump in his statement announcing his running for chief of authority.
