Research results Waking up an hour earlier can reduce the risk of depression

To better understand the effects of wake time, lead author Iyas Daghlas, MD, used DNA testing to look at more than 340 genetic variants that affect sleep patterns. After collecting this data, the researchers then looked at a sample of genetic information and other medical records that revealed major depressive disorder diagnoses.

Based on the findings, it is clear that people with a genetic predisposition to waking up early are less likely to be diagnosed with depression.. Although previous research has linked Irregular sleep leads to depression and see that Night owls are twice as likely to suffer from depression, this is the first study to accurately determine how much A person’s waking hours should change to affect their mental health.

“We’ve known for a long time that there’s a relationship between sleep duration and mood, but one question we often hear from clinicians is: How much sooner do we need to change people to see benefit?” study author Celine Vetter, M.Sc, say in one New information posted. “We found that bedtime even an hour earlier was associated with a significantly lower risk of depression.”
