PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Marcus Stroman did not miss a step after sidelined last season.
The right-handed player launched six sharp rounds on his first appearance since 2019, Dominic Smith and Pete Alonso, each hitting a two-half homer and New York Mets defeat Philadelphia Phillies Tuesday night 8-4 for their first win of the year.
Didi Gregorius launched a homer solo shot for Philadelphia, the team that had been looking for their first 5-0 match since 1915.
Stroman (1-0) allowing one run and three hits before making room for a bull wasted Jacob deGrom’s superb performance the night before. He has made 15 of his 18 appearances on the ground.
“Whenever I’m good, that’s my forte,” Stroman said. “I have never been a proud attacker.”
Stroman chose not to participate in 2020 due to concerns about COVID-19. He excitedly returned to the mound in the presence of fans.
“I feel great,” he said. “I have maximum confidence out there. I feel like I can compete with anyone any night. ”
The Phillies’ start, Chase Anderson (0-1) allowed two runs and two hits in five innings in his first match against his new team. Vince Velasquez beat the sidelines in the sixth inning but overcame four blows in the seventh inning. All four scored as Mets extended the score to 6-1.
Brandon Nimmo took the forced move on his third run in New York and chased Velasquez. Francisco Lindor headed to the top to defeat Brandon Kintzler to make the score 4-1. Another run was scored when Kevin Pillar robbed him home as Nimmo slipped past the second base and caught JT Realmuto’s throw to Monday knocking Gregorius’ gloves off. Michael Conforto’s RBI brace in another run.
“He hasn’t been in a competitive situation in a while,” Phillies coach Joe Girardi said of Velasquez. “It’s hard to explain. We’ll need Vinny. We will need all of these people to contribute. “
Fierce Rhys Hoskins followed Adam Haseley’s brace with a RBI single by Miguel Castro in season seven. Castro escaped further trouble by retiring Bryce Harper on a deep path to focus on runners-up and third.
Trevor May got through the siege with runner-up and third in round eight, overtaking Brad Miller and Roman Quinn.
Alonso connected with David Hale in season nine, drawing “Let’s Go Mets!” Chants from fans dressed in blue and orange made the trip to Philly.
The Mets team kicked off their season on Monday after a three-match series in Washington was postponed because of the coronavirus outbreak between the National teams.

Alonso became the fastest player to hit 70 home players in his career, surpassing Aaron Judge. Alonso did that in the 220th match, 11 more matches than Judge.
Mets coach Luis Rojas kicked off his press conference by holding up the ball caught in the final and saying that the team would hand it over to new owner Steve Cohen.
“It was the teamwork that brought it in so we could present it to Steve,” said Rojas.
After the game, Cohen wrote on Twitter: “See, that’s easy.”
The Mets have had 221 home runs at Citizen Bank Park since Philadelphia’s batter friendly field opened in 2004. That’s the highest total for a single competitor, 29 more than Atlanta. times.
