Stroman throws 9 throws in Mets-Marlins Rainout – CBS New York


NEW YORK (CBSNewYork / AP)Marcus Stroman Throw nine balls under steady rain before the match was halted and mid Sunday’s match New York Mets and Miami Marlins has been suspended at Citi Field.

The match started at 1:10 pm and was paused by referee DJ Reyburn after seven minutes. The game was suspended after 2 hours 10 minutes and will resume as part of the day and night doubles game on August 31st.

The home team decides whether to start the game or not. Once the game has started, the referee decides whether to stop playing due to bad weather or not.

Stroman tweeted in the rain to express dissatisfaction.

“This game should never have started. Not smart at all, ”Stroman tweeted. “Those conditions put people at risk. Gladly, neither player was injured. Hate to wait 5 more days to be able to play. It is a painful feeling ”.

While Mets manager Luis Rojas started Stroman, Miami coach Don Mattingly opted to use reliever John Curtiss as an opener. Curtiss never got to the mound.

“We don’t know where we’re going with this weather. They’ve opened the gate, so they’re obviously going to try to play, ”Mattingly said about 1 hour 20 minutes before starting. “But the weather is still pretty good so I just feel that (using painkillers) is the safest way for us to go.”

Only two players fight. Corey Dickerson hit singles and Starling Marte flew out.

Stroman deliberately worked in the rain, throwing wet balls, and he twice forced Reyburn to get a new baseball set.

There were about 1,000 fans sitting in their chairs when the game started, and by the time Jesús Aguilar stepped into the batter’s box, dirt in the football field glistened and spilled from the water. The match was halted after a pair in the dirt left the score 2-0 for Aguilar.

MOVE DOWN

Michael Comfort was dropped from third to sixth by coach Luis Rojas in order of hitting the ball. Entering his final season before qualifying as a free agent, Conforto has a 3 start to 21 (.143) without home and three RBIs.

MARLINS MOVING

Daniel Castano Film Festival was recalled from the alternate training site, and OF Lewis Brinson was selected there.

TRAINER ROOM

Marlins: C Jorge Alfaro (left hamstring) hasn’t played since Tuesday and Miami hopes he can play Monday.

Mets: 1B JD Davis (left hand bruised by the impact of third court) still feels uncomfortable swinging the racquet.
