Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said the US economy was ready to take off on Sunday.
In an interview with CBS News’s “60 Minutes”, which released a quote Sunday morning, Powell said growth would create more jobs. The full interview will air Sunday evening at 7pm Eastern Time on CBS.
“What we’re seeing right now is actually an economy that appears to be at a turning point,” said Powell in the interview. “We feel like we are in a place where the economy is about to start growing much faster and job creation is coming much faster.”
Powell notes widespread immunization and strong fiscal policy support through the pandemic, but warns that the economy could fail if there is another wave of COVID-19 infections.
“It would be smart if people could continue to be out of society and wear masks,” he said.
