In July, St Ann Hospital, a healthcare campus and headquarters for the Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust in London, opened the first phase of a new campus. The 46,285 square foot, $ 26 million Blossom Court mental health residential treatment building houses four mental health zones.
Four rooms are arranged around two private courtyards, allowing ample daylight to penetrate the interior spaces and provide patients with a positive focus as they pass through the building.
To support physical health, exercise equipment is provided in both the building’s courtyard and terrace. Since outdoor spaces can be accessed independently, patients can participate in the activity when they are most comfortable without the need for staff support.
The building’s exterior is designed to blend in with future phases, including a neighboring community. By internalizing the outdoor spaces, the building provides its own secure enclosure without the need for perimeter fencing.
