Understand and reinforce leadership identity is the first real step in embracing the mentality of innovation. And that begins with the question that every leader has to ask and keep asking: What is my leadership identity?
This seems like an easy question to answer, but most of the leaders I’ve met have had difficulty with it, because they have very little experience answering it. You can understand that your leadership identity determines who you influence and how you influence business evolution, but what identifies your leader? Your answer personal branding and it value proposition (what your personal brand addresses for).
So defining your leadership identity begins with defining your personal brand. You cannot turn your business around until you turn yourself around. Understanding who you are and what problems you solve is how your leadership will define the development of your business in the new normal.
The concept of personal branding – the idea that success comes from how you authentically represent and market yourself and your career as an individual – has been around for 20 years or so, but the workplace didn’t encourages us to develop our personal brands, let alone live them and use them. Hence, a lot of leaders talk about personal branding, but few associate it with leadership in this way and are therefore personally responsible for it for its growth.
The importance of personal relationships with leadership cannot be underestimated – touching the business every day – as it defines your leadership’s identity and its ability to judge your differences and activate it all. Potential of others: your team, your customers and yourself.
Your people want to know what positions they fit in and what they can best contribute to their organization and the regeneration process. They want to be a part of the workplace that allows them to be who they really are. Only then will they become supervisors of the workplace culture and become more accountable to it, foster that authenticity to become more intimate with your customers and clients, and seize opportunities. new market opportunity.
To do this, people need leaders with strong identities that provide clarity and understanding of what their leaders deal with – leaders with strong identities that support the Their personal regeneration efforts to be more purposeful, accountable and responsible in the way they lead and influence others.
Leadership is about wanting to be important, not just success, it’s what the innovation mentality stands for. You just need to be brave and be vulnerable enough to act and be your truest in everything you do to understand people and what their brands represent and address. Do it and your leadership identity will have an incredible influence in driving change through who you are.
Propose your personal brand equity
What opportunity gaps does your brand address? When leaders lack understanding what the answer to this question is, they cannot effectively reinforce their personal brands, let alone the personal brands of the people they serve. More importantly, when you can’t answer this question with 100% confidence and clarity, you can’t consistently lead with an evolution-driven rather than an alternative approach.
So now, it’s your turn. Answer the following four questions:
- What is unique about the way you think?
- What makes you different as a leader?
- What impact do others expect from your presence?
- What kind of solution do you continuously provide?
Keep your answers to four words or less if possible, and remember that there are no wrong answers. General work flat. As you do so, keep in mind that categories and questions are sequential and each category is built on top of each other. They tell the story of your personal brand equity proposition. This sequence and story is essential to understanding who and what you serve, what others can expect from your leadership, what is your personal brand equity proposition and the solution. for what and how your leadership identity affects your business.
