NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Art is starting again in New York City.
“Office! A musical parody,” an off-Broadway Musical, was one of the first full-length performances to grace the stage in over a year.
Actress Emma Brock, who plays Michael Scott in a musical based on the hit TV series, said: “I am truly delighted to be back, to bring joy, to bring happiness to people and entertainment.
The off-Broadway show was the first musical to return to New York City in more than a year since the pandemic began.
It opens Friday nights at the Theater Center in Midtown with 33% capacity.
General Manager Catherine Russell has installed a new ventilation system, in addition all the cast and staff are vaccinated.
“When spectators enter, they will be asked to wear masks. We’ll measure their temperatures, ”Russell told CBS2’s Andrea Grymes.
Broadway shows were slated to reopen until September, but some smaller theaters that host Broadway shows were able to reopen last week with restrictions along with other small and medium entertainment venues.
That also includes the Daryl Roth Theater in Union Square, where Mayor Bill de Blasio visited last Friday.
They are hosting a “Blindness” program, billed as a “socially disparate experience of sound and light”.
“We welcome everyone. I know you’ll be comfortable. I promise you’ll be safe, ”said Daryl Roth.
